Position: Special Education Teacher

Location: Milford High School

Reports To: Principal

Starting Date: August 22, 2018

  • Possess or be eligible for a Delaware teaching license and dually certified in special education and one secondary content area.
  • All candidates must be certified in at least one secondary content area, Math, ELA, Social Studies, or Science.
  • Math certification preferred.

  • To provide leadership and support to students in a special education self-contained classroom setting, ensure compliance to the IEP, and provide optimal student learning.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • · Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

    · Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.

    · Serve as a case manager for students who receive special education services.

    · Participate in IEP meetings.

    · Facilitate implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) within the general classroom setting.

    · Work with school psychologists, administrators, Dean of Students, and IEP Team to develop and implement effective programming for students.

    · Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

    · Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

    · Collaborate with the general education teacher to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations as afforded by the IEP.

    · Act as co-teacher in the general education classroom setting.

    · Record and maintain data records for students who receive special education services.

    · Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

    · Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

    · Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.

    · Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations.

    · Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.

    · Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

    · Provide for his or her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be according to the current salary schedule and the Professional Agreement. Ten-month teaching assignment.

Salary and Benefits: Salary range and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with Board of Education Policy.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

  • Teacher of Mathematics Grades 9-12 (Valid 6-8 in a Middle School)
