TITLE: Early Childhood Supervisor

  1. Eligible for or hold certification as Assistant Principal by the State of Delaware Department of Education.
  2. Master's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in early childhood education or a closely related field.
  3. Five years of successful teaching experience preferably in an early childhood setting.
  4. School-based teacher leadership experience or experience as an assistant principal preferred.
  5. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.

REPORTS TO: Director of Delaware Early Childhood Center

LOCATION: Delaware Early Childhood Center (DECC)

JOB GOAL: To work closely with the DECC Director to ensure the agency provides high quality programs and services following DECC's mission and principles. The Early Childhood Supervisor also supports the work within Lake Forest School District and at the state level, as identified by the DECC Director, to enhance Delaware's Early Childhood System.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of Lake Forest School District policies and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal regulations and laws in early childhood and special education. Knowledge of early childhood curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services. Ability to motivate, encourage, and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance as well as good morale. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent human relations skills.

  1. Works with the director to analyze, share, and use program and student achievement data to develop and implement the strategic plan.
  2. Works with the director to implement systematic procedures to assess program effectiveness.
  3. Shares responsibility for establishing and maintaining a welcoming environment that demonstrates respect for the students and families served by the school.
  4. Solicits input from diverse stakeholder groups in a variety of ways (e.g., surveys, e-mails, phone calls, meetings, focus groups, discussions, advisory groups, etc.) to identify and solve problems and ensures input is analyzed and implemented for continuous improvement.
  5. Responds equitably to all program and family community requests and works with staff and stakeholders to organize and celebrate differences in cultures through program materials and activities for students and families.
  6. Assumes responsibility for specific areas of administration and management assigned by the director.
  7. uses administrative and management practices to promote the efficient and effective operation of DECC.
  8. Works with director to establish and maintain relationships with community organizations to ensure ongoing, two-way communication and initiate activities which foster productive parent and community involvement.
  9. Handles behavior problems promptly and positively.
  10. Works with the director, teachers, parents, and various student support teams to ensure appropriate programming for all students.
  11. Assumes specific responsibilities assigned by the director in the selection, orientation, assignment, supervision, and evaluation of staff.
  12. Assists with planning and implementation of professional learning communities.
  13. Prepares a variety of written reports and correspondence.
  14. Assumes responsibility for operation of the school and its programs in the absence of the director.
  15. Performs related work and other duties as required/assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Attendance at evening and weekend student activities including ECAP Policy Council, school-wide community events, and Lake Forest Board of Education Meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and contract length to be established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
