POSITION: Secondary Assistant Principal

LOCATION: Delmar School District

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To inspire, lead, guide, and direct every member of the administrative, instructional, and supportive services team in setting and achieving the highest standards of excellence, so that each student enrolled in the district may be provided with a complete, valuable, meaningful, and personally rewarding education.

  • Assists with the Instructional Programs
    • Works directly with Learning Focused (LFS)
    • Attends the LFS Train the Trainer workshop
    • Utilizes Power Walk-Through Software
  • Participates in a District and State level Administrator Mentoring Program
  • Assists with the District Leadership Professional Learning Team
  • Conducts observations and evaluations for the revised Delaware Appraisal Performance System (DPAS II)
  • Conducts annual reviews/updates to the Staff and Student Handbooks
  • Assists with the Professional Development annual agenda
  • Assists with Student Scheduling, Placement and Homebound Instruction
  • Assists the Guidance Department with student residency and behavioral and academic incentives
  • Serves as the Disciplinarian for students and works with District School Resource Officer
  • Communicates daily with staff and students
  • Oversees weekly team/department Professional Learning Communities
  • Facilitates Parent-Teacher conferences
  • Assists with monthly department and team leader meetings
  • Assists with the School Safety & Crisis Management Plan
  • Assists with the School CHOICE program
  • Assists with the State-Wide Testing Program and manages data and reports for: Eschool Plus, Cognos, NAEP, DCAS, PSAT/SAT, and SBAC
  • Assists with Alternative School Placement (SCOPE)
  • Assists with Summer School duties
  • Assists the Security Resource Officer
  • Assists with School Fundraising events and activities
  • Assists with the District Strategic Plan initiatives and Grant Projects
  • Composes the Assistant Principal's Corner in the District Newsletter
  • Coordinating and managing substitutes
  • Supervises the following:
  • Athletics events
  • Student assemblies
  • Student and staff awards ceremonies and banquets
  • Morning and after-school bus duty
  • Lunch duty
  • Student locker distribution
  • Staff keys distribution
  • School uniforms
  • Other duties as assigned

ANNUAL EVALUATION PROCESS: Conducted by the Principal

  • Master's Degree in Education Leadership and five years teaching experience
  • Principal/Assistant Principal Certification
  • Proven experience in the areas of leadership
  • Satisfactory Child Protection Registry
  • Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation
  • Cooperative Attitude
  • Excellent work ethic and ability to work collaboratively
  • The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment.
  • Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check, which is the responsibility of the employee.
  • The State of Delaware requires new employees to be paid by direct deposit and to be part of a lag payroll system as conditions of employment.
