PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

The principal is responsible for the administration of the total school program and to provide leadership in the strategic planning of instructional programs that support teacher effectiveness and enhance student learning. The Principal will support the mission of the district while demonstrating school leadership. These responsibilities include establishing a climate conducive to learning, clarifying roles and expectations, long-range planning, and coordinating community involvement in the total school program.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide leadership in the planning, implementing and assessment of the school with a focus on increased student achievement, building a positive climate for learning, leveraging research and data-driven initiatives, and building a high performing faculty and leadership team to achieve the school's vision, goals, and aspirations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work cooperatively with the staff and community in designing and implementing a curriculum to address the needs of students in accordance with State and District standards.
  • Develop, in cooperation with the staff, and administer the school's budget.
  • Observe, evaluate, and review the performance of all personnel to provide a basis for encouraging effective and optimum performance.
  • Develop and sustain, in conjunction with the administrative office, a program of public relations to establish and maintain favorable relationships with the community, local groups, and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school goals.
  • Develop school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of pupils as established in District procedures.
  • Establish a culture supporting strategic planning within small learning communities of teachers.
  • Develop a master schedule that supports differentiated learning experiences, maximizes instructional time, and is aligned to the instructional needs of students.
  • Communicate the school mission and foster a school culture that emphasizes academic achievement for all students.
  • Provide leadership that will ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement.
  • Utilize a rigorous hiring process.
  • Provide leadership and instructional coaching of staff in the area of student data analysis and designing and implementing interventions for low-performing students.
  • Provide leadership and support to the school administrative team in monitoring instructional practice and student achievement data.
  • Analyze assessment data to drive decision making regarding effective instruction and student progress.
  • Supervise and monitor staff members' accurate and timely completion of data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and work collaboratively with external partners hired to provide expertise and professional development.
  • Provide coaching and professional development based on identified staff needs.
  • Promote and monitor instructional innovation that influences and improves the entire school from within.
  • Select, observe, evaluate and supervise teaching staff. Evaluate employee performance as it relates to student learning and provide such assistance as needed.
  • Work with District to implement training and professional development opportunities for instructional staff.
  • Work with diverse groups of students, staff and community.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
  • Promote and support efforts to increase parental involvement.
  • Demonstrate leadership which consistently inspires excellence, promotes high morale, and encourages distributive leadership.
  • Complete and use formal (DPAS II) and informal (standards based classroom rubric) observations and DPAS II procedures to provide feedback to teachers regarding performance.
  • Use the DPAS II protocol to document ineffective teacher performance and provide this documentation to the Office of Human Resources.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by immediate supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • 3 years of Administrative experience preferred
  • Experience with International Baccalaureate programming (middle and high school) strongly preferred
  • Delaware Advanced License
  • Delaware Continuing License
  • Delaware Initial License
  • Out of State Teaching License
  • DESPAP School Principal and Assistant Principal
  • Fluent Spanish preferred
