REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Pupil Personnel Services

QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a Principal/Assistant Principal
    • Master's degree
    • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience
    • Certification in Special Education
    • Administrative experience preferred

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:To assist the Senior Director of Pupil Personnel Services in the operation of the instructional program and to provide educational leadership for the staff, the students and the community. These responsibilities include establishing a climate conducive to learning; defining roles and expectations for school staff; planning, coordinating and supervising all programs and identifying needed modifications; and administering changes which result from local and state-wide decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To assist Administration in the following:
  • Coordinate and oversee programs for students with disabilities Kindergarten through age twenty one across schools
  • Monitor achievement data for students with IEPs and collaborate with the senior directors of Teaching, Learning and Academic Support to improve student outcomes.
  • Consult and communicate with building administrators regarding supports and services to students with disabilities
  • Identify and incorporate best practices for including students into the general education environment and into the total school environment
  • Coordinate on going Professional Development for special education teachers, school psychologists, speech pathologists, and para educators.
  • Coordinate, instruct and evaluate the classroom implementation of the Common Core Standards and the Grade Band Extensions for individual students with disabilities in special programs
  • Provide leadership for identified district special education initiatives, such as Read 180, standards-based IEPs, and positive behavior support.
  • Deliver leadership in curriculum implementation and inclusive practices at all levels of schooling
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and community members
  • Monitor legal compliance for issues related to students with special needs and address all areas of noncompliance
  • Conduct special education audits of identified indicators in collaboration with the Senior Director of Pupil Personnel Services. Assist in the completion of needed DOE audit reports.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Corrective Action Plans pursuant to DOE reports.
  • Other responsibilities as specified by the Senior Director of Pupil Personnel Services
