POSITION: Supervisor, Professional Development & Learning CLOSING DATE: July 16, 2018

LOCATION: Drew Educational Support Center

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Supervise, plan, evaluate, and provide leadership for the overall professional development program. Assume responsibility for the budget development and expenditures of professional development related programs. Supervise instructional coaches and other designated employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in education or educational administration or related field
  • Valid Principal/Assistant Principal or Central Office Personnel certificate
  • Three (3) years successful experience as a teacher
  • Three (3) years successful experience as an administrator preferred
  • Professional Development experience preferred
  • Knowledge of educational philosophy, law, educational research, methods and techniques of instruction, professional development, current educational issues, policies and procedures of district, state and federal government
  • Ability to plan effectively, organize, implement, and evaluate plans for instructional and professional development updates
  • Ability to formulate ideas and communicate effectively
  • Ability to resolve conflict, listen to and appropriately respond to concerns in a timely manner
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively use available resources (Data Service Center) to secure staff development
  • Knowledge of effective adult learning strategies
  • Ability to develop a multi-tiered professional development plan
  • Assess needs, organize, conduct and evaluate district-wide professional development program for paraprofessional/auxiliary, professional and administrative staff

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques
  • Apply research to improve student achievement and well-being
  • Supervise and coordinate efforts with others in considering "effective schools," "best practices," research findings and effective teaching techniques
  • Provide leadership in policy development related to professional development
  • Prepare reports and conduct research as requested by the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent
  • Promote open, positive communication among central office staff, campus staff, the Board of School Trustees, parents, and community members
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements
  • Assist administrators in providing for systematic evaluation of the effectiveness of instructional programs; formative plans for improvement
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop a district professional development plan for all employees and stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with school and technology support staff to develop a comprehensive technology training program with a primary focus on integrating technology into the curriculum
  • Establish a protocols and procedures for monitoring and evaluating the district's professional development plan
  • Work collaboratively with school leaders to develop tools and resources to support their school enhancement plans
  • Work collaboratively with the University of Delaware's Professional Development Center for Education and other partners including school districts in and outside of the state of Delaware
  • Work collaboratively with the Delaware Department of Education on all matters related to professional development
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Directors of Teaching and Learning on all matters related to professional development
  • Monitor education research and provide information on best professional development practices to all district personnel
  • Provide leadership for district committees related to professional development
  • Provide leadership for facilitating administrative meetings
  • Provide leadership of professional development and training programs for all staff members including current and prospective administrators
  • Supervise pre-service activities
  • Assist with DPAS evaluations as needed
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget for the Department of Professional Development
  • Participate in professional associations related to instruction and staff development
  • Adhere to all Board policies and District Administrative procedures
  • Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned.
