PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES - SCHOOL NUTRITION ASSISTANT (Part-Time):
  • Shall perform skilled work in the preparation of all menu items according to a pre-planned menu, using selected standardized recipes; could be responsible for processing specialized diets.
  • Shall schedule preparation time so that menu items are ready promptly at serving times and batched cooked in order to ensure quality and freshness. Products are to be taste-tested for quality before serving.
  • Shall prepare daily menu items in appropriate quantities, assuring adequate portions and avoiding under or over production. Responsible for reading recipes and converting measurements.
  • Shall inform Manager/Assistant Manager of supplies that are needed well in advance. Shall have the ability to maintain daily written production records and all temperature records.
  • Shall implement proper HACCP procedures when receiving, preparing, cooking, cooling and storing of all food in accordance with federal, state and district procedures.
  • Shall assist with the receiving and checking-in of food and/or supply orders while following HACCP procedures.
  • Shall be responsible for proper use, operation and cleanliness of all kitchen equipment including but not limited to: Steamers, ranges, ovens, slicers, mixers, food processors, dishmachine, ice machine and all other kitchen equipment as required.
  • Shall have the ability to operate the computerized point of sale system with accuracy.
  • Shall assist in the dishroom, even when not assigned, to avoid a backup of items to be washed.
  • Shall keep production work areas, storage areas, student dining areas and equipment clean at all times.
  • Shall assist the School Nutrition Manager and/or Assistant Manager in maintaining the perpetual food inventory and will assist with the monthly physical inventory of all items utilized in daily work.
  • Shall participate in the cross training of all duties which include, but are not limited to: Server, cashier, dishroom attendant, Cook's assistant and/or runner.
  • Shall observe and assist with any duty that will expedite the meal service without regard to classification which includes, but is not limited to: Preparation, cooking, serving and cleanup.
  • Adheres to approved standard of personal hygiene and grooming, including appearance, cleanliness and following appropriate dress code.
  • Shall display to students, faculty, staff and co-workers a positive attitude of accommodation and cooperation.
  • Shall assume the responsibilities for full-time for School Nutrition Technicians as needed and requested.
  • Shall adhere to applicable federal regulations, Board policies and departmental procedures.
  • Shall perform other related duties as needed or as assigned.


Start Date: August 23, 2018

Duty Days: 170

Reports To: School Nutrition Manager and/or Assistant Manager

Salary Range: From/To: Three and a half (3.5) hours per day, exclusive of lunch. Approximately 170-180 days per year. Salary based on state and local salary schedules and experience.

Additional Job Information:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

-Successful completion of Delaware Department of Education's Food Service Unit Course series, or willingness to complete series within two years of employment. Failure to complete will result in termination.

-Minimum of School Nutrition Association Level I certification must be obtained within one year of employment. Failure to complete or maintain certification will result in termination.

-Current ServSafe Certification, or willingness to complete within one year of employment. Failure to complete or maintain will result in termination.

-Manages and maintains professional development requirements/continuing education units (CEUs) per USDA federal regulations.

-Prior food service experience is preferred, however on-the-job and classroom training will be available.

-Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in English (read, write, speak) with students, families, staff, administration and community members.

-Ability to read, interpret and effectively execute recipes.

-Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, current USDA meal patterns for school nutrition programs.

-Ability to work in an environment of extreme cold, hot and humid temperatures for sustained periods.

-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.

-Excellent work history, including evidence of punctuality, good attendance and satisfactory evaluations.

-Excellent health including full range of motion, manual dexterity, ability to stand for at least four (4) hours at a time. Ability to perform the following actions: Bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, carrying, moving objects and lifting a minimum of at least 50 lbs. Health certificate is required.

-Valid drivers license and reliable personal transportation.

-Applicants must complete a written skills test as part of the interview process.

-Satisfactory Criminal Background Check.

-Satisfactory Child Protection Registry Check.

-Satisfactory Mantoux Tuberculin Test

-Participation in Direct Deposit of Pay.
