POSITION: Literacy Coach

LOCATION: North Dover Elementary

REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Elementary Curriculum

STARTING DATE: August 2018

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with district staff, building administrators and teachers as a:
      • Facilitator of Professional Development to plan and provide training and ongoing support that encourages teachers to reflect on their practice, on their students' performance data, and on developments in each content area to extend their knowledge and improve their teaching; this professional development could be a part of the school's PLC structure or a stand-alone model.
      • Curriculum Leader to support teachers by providing instruction for the implementation of the Common Core State Standards and by recommending instructional and/or assessment improvements based on student data and evidence-based instructional practices.
      • Instructional Leader to recommend and model evidence-based instructional practices focusing on strategies that engage students to deepen their knowledge across content areas.
      • School Level Assessment Coordinator to schedule, administer, communicate and coordinate accountability, screening, progress monitoring and diagnostic assessments.
      • Leader of Assessment Data Review to assist teachers in examining student assessment data and helping teachers create appropriate interventions or create student, grade, school, and/ or district goals through PLC's. Engages teachers in data analysis and goal-setting through State of the School (SOS) activities.

  • Serves as an integral part of the Instructional Support Team (IST) to help determine specialized instructional and behavioral supports.
  • Provides daily K-4 classroom support to teachers with an emphasis on additional support as needed for new teachers.
  • Serves as part of a professional network of instructional coaches to plan and implement ongoing professional learning opportunities throughout the school year and during the summer as needed.
  • Continue personal professional development to gain content area knowledge and training in evidence-based instruction.
  • Serve on school and district committees as assigned.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Bachelor of Science and Certification in Elementary Education
  • Master's Degree in Education with Reading/Special Education certificate preferred
  • At least 3 years classroom teaching experience required with successful experience at the elementary level
  • Working knowledge of large and small group reading instructional practices and how to differentiate instruction to meet student needs
