POSITION: Associate Principal

LOCATION: Central Middle School

REPORTS TO: Principal

To work cooperatively with the principal to increase student achievement, provide leadership in specific areas identified by the principal, and successfully carry out the mission, goals and objectives of the district and school.

  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Works cooperatively with parents, staff and the school community in strengthening school community relations.
  • Works as an instructional leader of academic departments.
  • Assists in interviewing, training, and evaluating the school staff.
  • Evaluate instructional staff using the state and district approved tools.
  • Optimize instruction by supporting teachers' instructional needs and implementing curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Able to identify and describe effective instructional practices and how to provide feedback, coaching and professional development to teachers to improve the quality of instruction throughout the school.
  • Articulating a clear instructional vision alongside the principal with a school-wide focus on teaching and learning that is data-driven, standards-aligned and rooted in a belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
  • Be visible in the school to promote instruction, climate and culture.
  • Assist the principal in fostering development of teachers, staff and student leadership capacity and utilizing their skills and expertise.
  • Be visible with a purpose, serve as a liaison and have positive communication with different community and stakeholder groups in and out of school.
  • Supervise staff training and student activities after the normal work day, as needed.
  • Work with Lead Teachers and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
  • Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment, conducting inventories and maintaining records.
  • Works cooperatively with community and social agencies to obtain the necessary resources to address the needs of all students.
  • Assists with the administration of pupil personnel services - i.e., guidance, scheduling, records, reports and health services.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of disciplinary policies and procedures in accordance with the district and Student Success Guide.
  • Assist with monitoring student attendance and disciplinary records and works with resource staff for investigative follow-up actions.
  • Assist with the security and safety procedures in the building, including fire, intruder and civil defense drills.
  • Serve with parents, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  • Supervise afterschool activities including sporting events as assigned
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal

Essential Qualifications and Skills:
  • Eligible to hold State of Delaware Secondary School Principal Certification.
  • Working knowledge of data collection and its impact on the educational process in the classroom
  • Minimum five years of successful secondary teaching experience.
  • Record of success as an instructional leader.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, writing, and public speaking skills.

Standard Requirements:
  • Favorable Criminal Background Check for the candidate who is offered employment.
  • Tuberculin test & physical
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month employee

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with DPAS II and Board of Education policy.

  • Certification as a School Leader I
  • Certification as Principal/Assistant Principal
