PRIMARY FUNCTION: Perform tasks related to maintaining and improving the Facility grounds.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Plant, trim, mow, weed, spray, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel or plow snow, remove ice, spread salt and/or other related functions of a groundskeeper with directions from crew leader.
  2. Operate and maintain various types of equipment, including power mowers, saws, edger and shears.
  3. Operate light or medium weight trucks to pick up and deliver materials and supplies.
  4. Operate light or medium tractors and attachments used to maintain grounds as needed.
  5. Assist in snow removal including parking lot plowing when needed.
  6. Work as directed by the Facilities Manager and/or Facilities Supervisors.
  7. Remain up-to-date and informed as to current practices of job related functions.
  8. Work with other people that may be contacted in an agreeable manner.
  9. Cooperate with other people within the department and other department personnel in completing assigned tasks.
  10. Display the necessary initiative and dependability to work alone or in groups.
  11. Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  12. Attend department meetings as required.
  13. Participate in fire and disaster programs as directed.
  14. Assist other District Maintenance personnel when needed and/or during slow grounds season.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to all custodial qualifications, the following are required:

  1. Must pass FFD Assessment - able to lift 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  3. Ability to use grounds maintenance tools and equipment as required.
  4. Must possess or obtain a valid CDL driver's license and be insurable.
  5. Must become certified in grounds management, sports turf management, arboriculture and/or pesticide application. (this must be completed within 6 months of hire)
  6. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  7. Ability to maintain effective relations with supervisor and fellow employees.
  8. Ability to follow and apply safety rules and regulations for job assignments and equipment used.
  9. Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
  10. Willing to be trained as required.
  11. Three years of experience in ground maintenance.
  12. Computer knowledge and ability, or commitment to gain knowledge and experience to use computerized programs such as email, internet, word processing & spreadsheets.
  13. Ability to oversee and direct crew to assure completion of each job.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Twelve-Month Year
