Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.  

Qualify, at time of hire, for State of Delaware Teacher of Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing Certificate pursuant to Title 14, Administrative Code 1574.

Applicant must demonstrate a level of knowledge and/or experience appropriate to the position.


Qualify for State of Delaware permit [pursuant to Title 14, Administrative Code, 764].

Fluency in American Sign Language.

Favorable criminal background and child protection registry check for the candidate offered employment.

Tuberculin test.

Participation in Direct Deposit.






Plans and delivers effective instruction; instructs in elementary or secondary subjects; heightens auditory perception; develops receptive and expressive oral language; develops skill in lip reading; teaches ASL; trains in the use of special materials and devices including hearing aids, assistive devices, etc.

Exhibits knowledge of Delaware’s CCSS.

Motivates students to work to attain their academic and social potential.

Counsels parents and children in order to alleviate emotional and social pressures; participates in structured parent education procedures.

Assist in the coordination of the students/programs in regular public school academic or vocational classes.

Facilitate communication between the student and staff in all instructional and non-instructional activities including conversations that relate to student understanding of content and social communication.

Assist students with interpreting needs including tutoring in specific subject areas.

Assist teacher(s), staff and students of the mainstream academic or vocational program with the communication process and techniques for working with deaf and hard of hearing students.

Prepare reports, in accordance with established procedures and forms, regarding mainstreamed students’ progress.

Assist in Individualized Educational Program (IEP) planning for mainstreamed students.

Assist in the coordination of the students/programs in regular public school academic or vocational classes.

Other related duties as assigned.
