QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Eligible for Delaware Paraprofessional Certification using one of the three options:
  1. High School Diploma and Passing Paraprofessional Assessment
  2. Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher learning and accumulating at least 60 credits.
  3. Associate's degree or higher.
  • Cooperative attitude and superior work ethic for performing in a team-oriented workplace.
  • Positive experience in working with children.

LOCATION: Central Academy

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: Responsible for providing assistance to a special education student in attainment of IEP goals and objectives. Assists the teacher in the introduction and development of new skills to enable the student to function effectively in their environment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assists in a variety of instructional activities with the individual student as assigned by the teacher.
  2. Assists the teacher in establishing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  3. Assists in the supervision and monitoring of the student through assigned duties, i.e. hallways, lunchroom, and bus duty: ensures appropriate conduct during these periods.
  4. Participates in staff and aide meetings.
  5. Monitors activities and behavior of the student to ensure physical and environmental safekeeping, as well as adherence to appropriate conduct and disciplinary controls.
  6. Assists teachers in checking and objectively evaluating progress; teaches the student individually reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines.
  7. Acts as a positive role model for the student through appropriate action and dress.
  8. Performs related duties as directed.

Terms of Employment:

Salary and work year to be according to the current salary schedule and the Professional Agreement.

START DATE: As soon as mutually agreeable

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
