POSITION: Reading Teacher - Read 180 (Temporary for the school year)

LOCATION: Central Middle School

REPORTS TO: Principal

STARTING DATE: February 2018

  • Teach reading for students using READ 180™.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Develop IEP goals and objectives for students participating in the READ 180 program.
  • Evaluate progress toward the goals quarterly.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Attend IEP meetings as needed.
  • Chair IEP meetings for caseload.
  • Maintain the Reading Lab and create a nurturing and risk free environment where students feel safe to learn and progress.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and -in harmony with the goals—Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's mission statement.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides reports as required, as well as notifying parents of student progress when necessary.
  • Diagnoses, monitors and documents the learning challenges of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff members.
  • Attend professional development for reading in general and READ 180 in particular to stay abreast with best practice and technology updates.

  • Meets certification requirements of the State of Delaware in the content area that is going to be taught
  • Successful completion of Praxis I and II exams.
