QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certification or eligibility for certification as a principal in the State of Delaware.
2. Must have a master's degree in school administration, leadership or instruction.
3. Minimum of three years of successful administrative experience at the elementary level.
4. Training in the Delaware Performance Appraisal System (DPAS) preferred.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Elementary Education

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The principal will provide leadership and administration which will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance so as to provide the best possible opportunities for student growth and development.

Some specific responsibilities include:

1. Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program.
2. Establishes and maintains a productive learning climate in the school.
3. Keeps supervisor informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters.
4. Prepares and manages the school budget.
5. Prepares or supervises the preparation of all paperwork required or appropriate to the school?s administration.
6. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school?s staff and students.
7. Maintains active relationship with students, staff, and parents.
8. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces the Discipline Policy as necessary, according to due process rights of students.
9. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school-sponsored activities, and functions.
10. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
11. Participates in the selection and supervision of school building personnel.
12. Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
13. Follows DPASII protocol in evaluating staff.
14. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
15. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
16. Establishes and maintains relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve student matters.
17. Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
