Job Goal: The Adapted Services Physical Education/ Health teacher will ensure that the District adapts Physical Education programs in cooperation and collaboration with all District Physical Education and Health Teachers and Programs to meets the needs of students with disabilities by:

  • ensuring that physical education services for students with intense and complex physical and/or intellectual challenges are differentiated as needed for each individual student based upon social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs
  • providing consultation and additional support services to both staff and students when the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team determines that a unique need exists preventing the student from fully participating in the General Education Physical Education classroom
  • Develop and implement district wide plan for Brandywine School District's participation in Delaware Unified Sports and/or Special Olympics activities to include, but not limited to: skill practice and preparation for competitive events, team sports and participation in school based athletic activities
Develop and implement classroom instruction for Health, activities for daily living, recreation and leisure as well as healthy living practices focusing on the needs of students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities and Autism Job Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Physical Education
  2. Possess or be eligible for educator licensure and/or certification as a Physical Education and Health Teacher in Delaware.
  3. Preference will be given to teachers who have obtained the Certified Adapted Physical Educator (CAPE) certification.
(If the successful candidate does not already possess the certification they must obtain the certification within two (2) years of hire).
  1. Mastery of the necessary content knowledge and skills to successfully teach assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) and deliver exceptional standards-based instruction in assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) that ensures academic growth for all students, including those with special needs.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to sensory needs and social/emotional/behavioral supports for students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities and autism
  3. Proficiency in automated student information systems for progress and grade reporting and class work documentation and ability to integrate technology into instructional delivery.
  4. Exceptional classroom management, organization, planning, instructional delivery, leadership, and technical skills; and the ability to utilize differentiated instructional methods to engage students in positive learning experiences.
  5. Outstanding ability to motivate and build relationships with staff, students and parents to promote student achievement and strengthen community partnerships.
  6. Commendable history of effective leadership, extra-curricular participation, an acceptable attendance record, and exemplary performance.
